How to Clean Granite Countertops
Most likely, you spent quite a bit of money to have those beautiful granite counter tops installed in your home. Hopefully, you had them sealed at the same time so that greasy stains and dirt wouldn’t settle into the porous stone.
If you keep up with it, cleaning your granite counter tops can be quite simple and easy, but the key to make sure you are cleaning them well on a regular basis. The biggest mistake a homeowner can make on granite surfaces is to clean them, then not remove your cleaner effectively.
Below is a great video that shows just how easy it is to clean those precious stones!
What you need:
- Mild dish soap
- Soft sponge
- Water
- Paper towels or soft rags
Instructions:
- In a small bowl, add just a dab of dish soap – about a quarter size
- Add about 2 cups of warm water to soap and mix well
- Immerse sponge in soapy water and wring out well
- You do not want the sponge to be dripping wet when you go to clean your granite
- Also, be sure NOT to use the scrubber side of your sponge, use steel wool or any harsh scrubbing method
- Wipe your counters well with the sponge to remove the surface dirt
- Rinse sponge well to remove all debris and wring out the sponge well
- Wipe counter tops again with only water to get rid of any lingering soap residue
- Wipe as many times as needed until you are sure the residue is gone.
- If any soap remains, it will begin to build up and cause a film on your counter tops
- Dry well with paper towels or soft cloth.
- It’s best to make several swipes across the counters to ensure they are completely dry
These are the instructions for a basic cleaning of your granite counter tops. If you have stains that can’t be removed by this method, do not continue to scrub. You should consult a professional that can help with severe stain removal.
