DIY Michael Jackson Costume

Michael Jackson CostumeMichael Jackson was the undisputed King of Pop.  His influences in music and entertainment run deep.  Although Michael costumes have always been popular, his death has increased the demand for an MJ costume.  Expect to see many Michaels this upcoming Halloween.  But, you don’t have to spend a lot to create your own outfit.

Michael had many looks over the decades that he ruled the charts, so you will need to decide what look you are going for.  One of the easiest costumes to replicate at home is the Military costume, which is the look we will use for creating your own DIY costume.

Just imagine the screaming and adoring fans who will chase you down the street as you stroll from house to house in your own Michael Jackson costume military outfit and sequin glove!

What You Need

Before you can dress as the King of Pop, you need to gather a few items:

  • Black, long sleeved shirt or sweatshirt
  • Black pants or black jeans
  • Black socks
  • Black shoes
  • Wig (optional)
  • Black hat
  • White glove with silver sequins (buy, if desired, or make, see below)
  • Gold ribbon (about one inch width)
  • Glue (Elmer’s Glue-All or similar)
  • Scissors

How To Make The Military Shirt

Gather your materials:

  • Black, long sleeved shirt or sweatshirt
  • Gold ribbon (about one inch width)
  • Glue (Elmer’s Glue-All or similar)
  • Scissors

Cut about six or seven ribbon strips long enough to go across the front of the shirt, as seen in the image above.

Glue the ribbons across the shirt.  Space them appropriately, based on how many stripes you want.

Wait for the glue to dry before wearing the shirt.

How To Make The Glove

Gather your materials:

  • White glove
  • Silver glitter
  • Glue (Elmer’s Glue-All or similar)

Lightly spread glue on the top side of the glove, then sprinkle glitter onto the glove.  You will not need much glue, so go easy with it.  Allow the glove to dry.

Repeat on the other side of the glove, so the entire glove is covered with silvery glitter.  Allow the glove to dry completely before wearing.

Putting The Outfit Together

Put on the outfit, including the glove, a hat and wig (if you decide to wear these).  Stand in front of a mirror and admire your handy work!
